Sisters and Brothers,
The Company has notified the Union that they will be conducting Dependent Verifications again this year. Please see the message below and act accordingly to avoid an interruption of coverage.
Duke Energy has an obligation to ensure that we pay healthcare claims only for dependents eligible for our plans (medical, dental and vision). As a responsible steward, we conduct periodic audits of dependents whose relationships can change. In February 2026, employees covering spouses/domestic partners, stepchildren and children of domestic partners will be required to re-verify their dependents’ eligibility for Duke Energy healthcare coverage. Biological and adopted children and dependents whose eligibility has been verified within the last year are excluded.
Impacted employees will have until Mar. 27, 2026 to complete re-verification of their dependents. Multiple notices (work emails and letters mailed to homes) with instructions on how to confirm dependent eligibility begin this week. Documents that can be used for re-verification include, but are not limited to, federal tax returns, bank statements, or mortgage statements that provide proof of financial partnership. Dependents who are not re-verified will be dropped from coverage Apr. 30, 2026.
If employees have any questions about the dependent re-verification requirements, they are encouraged to contact the Duke Energy myHR Service Center (888.465.1300).
Thank you, and please continue working safely.
Fraternally yours,
Phil
